1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Juneteenth Museum Act of 2024.

2. Study on feasibility of establishing Juneteenth Museum on Galveston Island The Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution shall carry out a study that examines the feasibility of establishing a museum for the purposes of the collection, study, research, publication, and establishment of exhibitions and programs relating to the historical significance of June 19, 1865, commonly known as Juneteenth Independence Day, to be located on Galveston Island, Texas. The study conducted under subsection (a) shall be carried out in consultation with elected officials of Galveston County and the State of Texas and community leaders from Galveston Island, and shall include an examination of— the costs associated with the construction and operation of the museum; whether the museum should be established as part of the National Museum of African American History and Culture; potential sites on Galveston Island for construction of the museum; and such other matters as the Secretary determines appropriate. The Secretary shall complete the study under subsection (a) not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act. Not later than 30 days after completing the study under subsection (c), the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on House Administration of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report that includes the results of the feasibility study conducted under subsection (a).
